It is an allegorical novella that critiques totalitarianism and explores the corrupting influence of power. The story is set on Manor Farm, where the animals, led by the pigs Old Major, Snowball, and Napoleon, revolt against the oppressive farmer, Mr. Jones. Inspired by Old Major’s dream of equality and freedom, they establish their own rules under the principles of Animalism, renaming the farm “Animal Farm.”

Initially, the revolution appears successful. Snowball spearheads ambitious projects like the windmill, aiming to improve life for all. However, tensions arise between Snowball and Napoleon, culminating in Napoleon driving Snowball away with trained attack dogs. Napoleon seizes power and becomes increasingly tyrannical, rewriting history and the commandments to suit his agenda.

The pigs indulge in privileges while the other animals toil under harsher conditions. Napoleon aligns with humans, betraying the revolution’s ideals. The animals, especially the hardworking horse Boxer, suffer, clinging to the hope of better days.

In the end, the pigs become indistinguishable from the humans they overthrew, symbolizing the betrayal of revolutionary ideals and the cyclical nature of power. Orwell’s tale serves as a cautionary reflection on the dangers of unchecked authority and political manipulation.
